Sedna the sea otter

This playful, dreamy little sea otter hardly realises how monotonous her existence is – and yet, when something out-of-the-ordinary happens, her heart beats a little bit faster. Her cute appearance, slightly resembling a cuddly toy, conceals a remarkably fearless character. Sedna is the heroine of this story. She will set off in search of something that is bigger than her, and attracts her. Although her species is sedentary, Sedna will go on the greatest of journeys.

Toklo the cormorant

A serious blowhard, fairly clumsy and just a little bit gutless, Toklo the cormorant is Sedna’s antagonist and also her joker. He is the embodiment of those who know a little but think they know a lot. Some adults in the audience will identify with his tendency to rely on guesswork.

Kuak the penguin

A secondary character in the story, Kuak, the ice cream-selling penguin who’s a bit of a grump and very sensitive to the cold, stands for continuity and the established order. The prospect of escaping from the slightly routine world he represents is what gives Sedna the urge to go adventuring. And the story will also transport Kuak, despite himself, to places his mind could not possibly imagine.

Music that’s more immersive than ever

Composed by Groff for Mediastro Promotion, and mixed by Bruno Preynat, the music in H2O was natively created for Dolby Atmos: the effects and instruments are dynamically delivered throughout the dome. Also exists in 7.1, 5.1 and stereo.

Character animation

To bring our characters to life like actual marionettes, we have developed a novel technique: the animators’ gestures are captured in real time in virtual reality, directly on a 3D stage, thanks to a VR headset. This method enables more natural and intuitive handling that gives the characters supple and lively movements, halfway between a cartoon and an animated soft toy. The result is organic and expressive, offering a unique visual experience.

Who we are

3D Emotion (director / co-producer)

Created in September 2001 by Vincent Arrouy and Stéphane Bertrand, the 3D émotion studio began producing shows for planetariums in 2005 with The Race to Earth. Since then, six other films have been produced, including Polaris and Lucia, both international successes. With GranPa and Zoe, and now, Hazelnuts, the studio is once again introducing endearing characters and lively adventures on a background of space discovery.

Mediastro Promotion (co-producer)

Mediastro Promotion is an association whose aim is to promote a maximum of scientific discoveries through the medium of shows. With Polaris and Lucia, Grandpa & Zoé, and now Hazelnuts. Mediastro Promotion is offering planetariums top quality full dome shows, where science is promoted through action, for the enjoyment of spectators of all ages.

4k to 8k

This is the first time a show of this kind is on offer to planetariums. It was a new challenge for us, and we are proud to have stepped up to meet it. We offer our film in a final 8k stereoscopic version.
